By Laura Kate Gamble, volunteer at the Hovde House in Huanuco, Peru
I don’t think I completely understood what I was getting myself into, when I signed up to volunteer at La Casa del Buen Trato HOVDE for two months. In my head, I was going to spend my days with the kids at the shelter, laughing and playing as we casually chatted in Spanish. I felt prepared for this volunteer opportunity, and I was ready to serve. It’s funny now how sure I was of my abilities, especially since my complete lack of preparedness for what I was stepping into was how God drew me closer to Him.
